Fighters from the Hay’et Tahrir al-Sham armed group have swept into the city of Aleppo after a lightning offensive, forcing the Syrian army to withdraw from the northern city after eight years.
The rebel assault is the most intense fighting seen in northwestern Syria since 2020, when Russia and Turkiye agreed to a deal to de-escalate the conflict after government forces seized areas previously controlled by opposition fighters.
The Syrian Arab Army needs to regroup; but that is easier said than done. For years, the US has occupied vital oil and grain fields to deprive the Syrian government of revenue generation. Because of this, and of course because of all the sanctions, Syria has languished following the Pyrrhic victory against our jihadi terrorists, in the first round of this conflict. Meanwhile, Turkey has protected the jihadi terrorists with their own military, while arming and training the terrorists to carry out this offensive. The Shiite militias are stretched thin, however the recent ceasefire between Hezbollah and the Zionists may free up defenders for Syria.
