Syrian opposition forces have launched an offensive in a western Aleppo district that has killed at least 89 people and overtaken a Syrian military base, a monitoring group based in Britain reported on Wednesday.
The attacks are believed to be the first major effort since 2020 by the rebel groups to take territory, when Turkey, which sided with the opposition forces, and Russia, which is Syria’s ally, brokered a cease-fire to halt fighting in the Idlib region.
We have just demonstrated to Russia why they absolutely must keep fighting in Ukraine. Freezing a conflict with the US/EU/NATO axis, under the guise of moving toward peace, only gives us time to rearm and reignite the conflict.
Make no mistake about it: this is an al-Qaeda led jihadi terrorist offensive. The umbrella group leading the charge, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, is al-Qaeda by another name. Their leader is a Saudi al-Qaeda operative who fought us in Iraq.
The Turks say this is a limited operation, but their treachery can never be discounted.
