US And 10 Other Countries Condemn North Korea Missile Launch

ABC News:

The United States and 10 other countries condemned North Korea’s latest ballistic missile launch as “unlawful and destabilizing” and urged the U.N. Security Council to condemn it as well because it violates multiple council resolutions.

In a joint statement, the 11 nations urged the 193 U.N. member nations to implement all Security Council resolutions that obligate North Korea to abandon its weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs and implement all U.N. sanctions.

North Korea’s neighbors detected a launch Sunday of a missile that flew 300 kilometers (190 miles) and reached 600 kilometers (370 miles) in altitude before landing off North Korea’s eastern coast. North Korean state media, without confirming the launch, said the country had recently tested cameras for a reconnaissance satellite that could photograph Earth from space.

The joint statement from the 11 U.N. members said North Korea has launched several ballistic missile this year in violation of U.N. resolutions.

Iran Says Key Issues Still Unresolved In Nuclear Talks

Reuters:

Iran said on Monday efforts to revive a 2015 nuclear deal could succeed if the United States took a political decision to meet Tehran’s remaining demands, as months of negotiations enter what one Iranian diplomat called a “now or never” stage.

The stakes are high, since the failure of 10 months of talks could carry the risk of a fresh regional war, of more harsh sanctions on Iran by the West and of continued upward pressure on world oil prices already strained by the Ukraine conflict.

UN Security Council Extends Yemen Arms Embargo To All Houthis

Al Jazeera:

Monday’s resolution, proposed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and adopted with 11 votes in favour and four abstentions, extends an embargo that until now targeted some Houthi leaders to the entire rebel group.

The Emirati mission to the UN welcomed the result of the vote, saying the resolution would “curtail the military capabilities of the Houthis & push toward stopping their escalation in Yemen & the region”.

The move comes days after United States President Joe Biden’s administration issued new sanctions against a network that it accused of transferring tens of millions of dollars to the Houthis – and amid a push by the Emirati government for countries to take a tougher stance against the rebels.

The Houthis have ramped up their attacks against Saudi Arabia and started directly targeting the UAE in recent weeks.

North Korea Says It Tested Cameras For Spy satellite

ABC News:

North Korea said Monday it tested cameras to be installed on a spy satellite, a suggestion that it’ll likely soon conduct a banned long-range rocket launch to modernize its weapons arsenal and apply more pressure on the Biden administration.

The United Nations and others view a satellite launch by North Korea as a cover for tests of missile technology, as ballistic missiles and rockets in satellite lift-offs share similar bodies, engines and other technology. Concerns about a North Korean satellite launch flared after it recently threatened to lift a four-year moratorium on big weapons tests to cope with what it called U.S. hostility.

US, Russia Share Table For Iran Talks Despite Ukraine War

The Jerusalem Post:

The US and European states continued partnering with Russia in negotiations to revive the Iran nuclear deal in Vienna, even as they sanctioned Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

The head of the Russian delegation to the talks, Mikhail Ulyanov, tweeted a photo of the JCPOA participants – US, France, Germany, UK, Russia and China – without Iran, which refuses to negotiate directly with the Americans.

Iran talks continued on Sunday, despite the Western parties to the talks removing Russia from the SWIFT banking system a day earlier, and imposing sanctions on the Russian Central Bank as well as people and entities facilitating the war in Ukraine.

Taliban Conducting House-To-House Sweep Across Afghan Capital

Al Jazeera:

The Taliban are conducting a huge security sweep of Kabul and other Afghan cities, their spokesman said on Sunday, going house-to-house in search of weapons and criminals blamed for a recent spate of robberies and kidnappings.

The operation, which started on Friday, has alarmed many who fear being targeted because of their association with the previous Western-backed regime or the US-led foreign forces who finally withdrew on August 31.

Arkansas Covid Hospitalization  Continue Decline After 1-Day Blip

Arkansas Democrat-Gazette:

Over the course of three days, hospitalizations fell by nearly 100, from 602 Wednesday to 508 Saturday. Thursday’s 545 patients marked the first drop below 600 since late December. However, four more people were hospitalized Friday.

The 41 fewer patients Saturday accompanied drops in ventilator usage and intensive care patients.

Friday saw 10 new intensive care patients, the first increase after 18 days on the decline. Saturday saw seven fewer than Friday for a total of 168.

The number of patients on ventilators fell for the 12th consecutive day, with 79 Saturday, five fewer than Friday, according to Health Department data.

Despite the positive trends, the department recorded 40 deaths from covid-19 Saturday, twice the number of new deaths recorded a week earlier, for a total of 10,465 since March 2020.

River Valley’s Chaffee Crossing Sees Record Growth In 2021

Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette:

Chaffee Crossing saw unexpected growth in 2021, bringing in money, jobs and experiences affecting the River Valley and its residents.

In 1995, the U.S. Department of Defense’s Base Realignment and Closure Commission recommended closing Fort Chaffee, an Army base opened in 1941. After the closing, the government opted to lease 65,000 acres to the Arkansas Army National Guard for training. The remaining 7,000 acres were turned over to the local community for redevelopment.

The Arkansas Legislature formed the Fort Chaffee Redevelopment Authority in 1997 to oversee the development of the land. The Fort Chaffee Redevelopment Authority uses the revenue generated from land sales to reinvest into infrastructure and public use amenities, and has reduced land prices or conveyed property at no cost to expedite and enhance development for public benefit.

Fort Chaffee Redevelopment Authority’s 2021 report announced that Chaffee Crossing made a record $5 million in property sales revenue, more than double the nearly $2.5 million in 2020.
