Oklahoma Lawmakers React To The Collapse Of Voting Legislation

KTUL:

The collapse of the Freedom to Vote Act voting bill has Republicans from the Sooner state applauding, but it has state Democrats planning for yet another fight.

The battle to pass a voting right’s bill hit a brick wall.

The bill would have restored Justice Department review of changes in election law in states with a history of discrimination.

That action came after Democratic Senators Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema went against their party to change filibuster rules.

Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe applauded the move calling the voting rights bill: “One big lie that would federalize our elections as a desperate way to hold onto power and force their radical agenda on Oklahoma families.”

While, Senator James Lankford said: “American’s have been clear—we do not want to federalize our elections.”
