Ten years of conflict has taken a devastating toll on Syrian girls with child marriage, forced puberty, suicide and self-harm on the rise, according to a new report.
The report, titled In Harm’s Way, found the crisis has profoundly changed the lives of women and girls in Syria, but adolescent girls in particular have faced “complex challenges that have influenced their development and impacted the rest of their lives”.
The research, which was released on Thursday, was conducted by Plan International in conjunction with local aid group Women Now for Development and included extensive interviews with girls, parents, social workers and health professionals.
There is a whole checklist of inevitabilities, upon which we can rely when we attack countries on the list, in pursuit of The Establishment’s goal of destroying all of the stable, sovereign, secular Muslim states. Once we peel off the top layer, the people revert to their primary loyalties of tribe and mosque. There is genocide, ethnic cleansing, and mass murder. Vast multitudes of people are displaced from their homes, to wander the earth, or hunker down in refugee camps. Getting raped becomes a way of life for many, as does full-blown slavery.
No one who paid attention to Iraq after President Bush took out Saddam Hussein can pretend like they did not understand all of this when President Obama decided to destroy Syria.
