KOCO:
A nonprofit group wants to ensure that veterans in the two Oklahoma national cemeteries have wreaths on their graves.
Thousands of Oklahoma veterans go without Christmas wreaths on their graves. Wednesday is the deadline to order wreaths.
Oklahoma has two national cemeteries in Fort Gibson and at Fort Sill. Volunteers from the nonprofit group Senior Veterans Inc. lay wreaths on the graves of veterans during the holidays.
“The wreaths are a symbol. It’s a promise from the people that those that have protected this great country that we all love will never be forgotten,” said Senior Veterans founder Dave Bolser.
Bolser told KOCO 5 that he has wreaths for 2,300 of the state’s 33,000 veterans’ graves at Fort Gibson and Fort Sill. The wreath-laying began years ago at Arlington National Cemetery and has recently expanded nationwide.
