Tulsa Police Face Backlash After Violent Mental Health Crisis Arrest Of 70-Year-Old Woman
KFOR:
The Tulsa Police Department is now facing backlash after an October 2021 arrest of a 70-year-old woman in a mental health crisis started making rounds on social media.
The startling 6-minute video of the incident was made from body camera footage of Tulsa police officers in a Tulsa business last October.
A woman named LaDonna Paris, 70, was suffering from a mental health crisis with her bipolar disorder and locked herself in the bathroom.
She was later arrested and spent a month in jail.
After a month, she was released with no charges.
I may be a little biased on this one—since I grew up with her family, and one of her sons was one of my best friends in high school—but I would like to see each and every single cop involved in this travesty not only fired, but nailed to the wall on any charge possible.
The cash settlement is going to be insane. There is no way, in a million years, that this should have happened.
LaDonna is a very intelligent woman. She is accomplished and respected. Tulsa may be the center of her orbit, but she has roots all over Oklahoma and Arkansas. I have been a guest in her home more times than I could possibly count. No matter what the boys were doing on Friday and Saturday nights, she had us at church on Sunday morning. No sir, I would not cross her. These cops messed up.
“This is not right.” – LaDonna Paris

Monument To Mark Site Of Former Tulsa County Stadium
KJRH:
A monument is set to mark the site of the former home of professional baseball in Tulsa on Thursday.
A dedication ceremony is scheduled for Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Tulsa County Fairgrounds where home plate once sat at Tulsa County Stadium.
“The baseball park was a Tulsa landmark for six decades,” said Tulsa County Commissioner Stan Sallee. “Baseball has a long history here, and Tulsa County is happy to be a part of this dedication.”
Tulsa County Stadium opened on the Tulsa County Fairgrounds near 15th and Sandusky on July 11, 1934 where it served as a home for the Tulsa Oilers and was the longest-serving stadium in the history of professional baseball in Tulsa.
Its name was changed in 1935 to Texas League Park and then to Oiler Park in 1961. The Oilers moved to New Orleans in 1977.
The name changed to Driller Park when the Drillers came to town and served as their home until 1980 with the opening of Sutton Stadium.
The Drillers now play downtown at ONEOK Field.

Researchers Seek New Search For Tulsa Massacre Victims
The discovery of human remains that could possibly be victims of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre in Oklahoma shows that the search for mass graves should continue, researchers said.
Forensic anthropologist Phoebe Stubblefield said Wednesday that DNA could provide circumstantial evidence linking the remains to the massacre. But she said that it likely can never be confirmed with certainty that any remains were massacre victims.
The report recommends additional excavation of Oaklawn Cemetery and additional scanning for possible mass graves in a park and adjacent homeless camp, where oral histories have indicated massacre victims were buried.
Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum said the city will work to implement the recommendations.

“These are your babies, and when we ship these care packages, my son’s name may not be on that list right now, but they’re all our children. They’re America’s children.”
The packages will be sent out early Friday morning so they can make it to the crew before they ship out.

Oklahoma McDonald’s Selling Strawberrry Pies
A recent story that appeared on national wire services announced that McDonald’s was bringing back a special dessert for a limited time: a blueberry & creme pie.
Just don’t try to find in Oklahoma. The blueberry pie will be available in only about half of the 14,000 McDonald’s outlets in the United States.
What Oklahoma McDonald’s will be stocking, however, is a similar version of this dessert, namely a strawberry & creme pie, available for $1.89.
The strawberry pie, as is the case with all McDonald’s pies, is made at Tulsa’s Bama Pie Company.
Tulsa Historical Society Receives 1921 Letter Found In NY Home Describing Race Massacre
The Tulsa Historical Society was recently given a letter from 1921 that describes the Tulsa Race Massacre from one man’s point of view.
The letter was first found 20 years ago inside a wall of a New York home that was being renovated. The Tulsa Historical Society said the donation of this letter is rare, both because of the content and because it is in great condition. The four-page letter from a man living in Enid, written to his parents in Olean, New York, doesn’t mention the Tulsa Race Massacre until page three.
“It is gut-wrenching. It is absolutely horrifying,” Tulsa Historical Society & Museum Executive Director Michelle Place said.
The letter is dated June 28th, 1921.
Thomas Sharp writes about his family life and his career, then goes on to write about the aftermath of the massacre, after he made a visit to Tulsa.
“I would caution anyone who is interested in reading this: you need to be prepared,” Place said.
The Tulsa Historical Society has the full, untouched letter online for anyone to read.
